The Trouble With Random

Random Patterns" are pleasing to the eye, interesting. They insight a feeling of free-spirit and whimsy. But, Nature does not like Random. Oh no! Chance will thwart Random at every turn. I challenge you to put 100 multi-colored Granny squares in a bag and not pull out 3 blue ones in a row. (Not, of course, unless that's what you're going for.) No, Random takes planning, skill, and
the patience of a Sudoku champion. Random is an art....
Let's make 3 stacks of motifs. Light, medium, and dark.
Lay out pattern in odd numbered rows so checkerboard
does not form.
Oops, that creates a diagonal stripe.

OK... Maybe even-numbered rows....
Oops, the diagonal stripe is going the other way.
(Oh yeah, checkerboards only have 2 colors, were
safe there)
Light, med, dark, med, light
med, dark, light, dark, med
repeat
Hmmmmm, not bad.
